NZST awards Maddison a Disney internship in the USA

16 September 2022

The New Zealand School of Tourism awarded ten students a six-month internship at Walt Disney World in Florida USA for 2022. The selected students will gain industry work experience in variety of customer service roles at the most sought out theme park in the world.

In 2021, Maddison Hubbard-Stewart from Auckland was awarded a scholarship to complete her Level 6 Diploma in Tourism and Travel Management with NZST.

Never in her wildest dreams did she think she would be working for Walt Disney World in the United States just a year later.

Initially, Maddison wanted to work in event management. After getting a taste of a career in tourism with NZST, she was sold on a career as a flight attendant.

“At NZST, we wear corporate attire like real-life flight attendants and learn health and safety protocols on an actual aircraft. You truly look and feel the part,” says Maddison.

Maddison hopes to be a flight attendant for Air New Zealand, the $1 billion airline that connects New Zealand to the Pacific rim and beyond.

“Air New Zealand is known for employing people from NZST for their trusted reputation in training work-ready graduates.”

“The Disney internship would be the cherry on top to impress Air New Zealand as they value employees that are well travelled and show extra commitment to their goals.”

Having lived with her grandparents her whole life, Maddison says she’s excited to build her independence and experience what it’s like to work, pay rent and flat with like-minded people her age.

“I’ll be coming back from Disney with real-life work experience, new mates and higher earning potential.”

“This experience is going to be a big change for me, but I’m excited for what the future brings.”

Maddison will work in the entertainment department during her Disney internship to develop her customer service experience. This will involve operating sophisticated ride systems, memorising and delivering narrations on a microphone, monitoring guest flow and providing a safe guest experience.
